make it stick: The Science of Successful Learning
I'm currently reading this book and I am definitely getting a lot out of it. These cognitive psychologists have conducted research on these the learning theories of Retrieval, Massed Learning, Spaced Learning as well as Interleaving to see how effective these learning techniques are, which gives educators the ability to choose how and when to use them to optimize learning for students.
This is not only interesting content for educators, it is interesting for all people who want to learn, which is most of us.

Small Teaching
by James M. Lang
If you are interested in modern learning theory and employing simple techniques in the classroom, either on ground or online, this is the book for you. This book is full of simple tactics that already align with what strong educators already do, that require very simple tweaks in approach or application, but will make a major impact on student learning and satisfaction. The teachings are small because they don't require a complete overhaul of one's curriculum. Educators who think about learning will find many useful strategies to implement as early as the next day after reading. I highly recommend this book.
